Hope to see you tonight at the Chandler Art Walk but if you can't make it please check the blog for new posts and all post are available for purchase. (Unless already sold) but Giclees are always available from sizes 5x7 - 16x20.

The Neighborhood by Melody Smith

18 x18 x1.5 Box Canvas - Acrylic & Modeling Paste
Texture with Heavy Gloss Gel
$150 - SOLD
Here is another abstract with many layers. Several of the houses have a raised texture where I used modeling paste as well as the moon glow area.

The rest of the painting is quite loose for me! I put a heavy Gloss Gel over the entire piece to add shine and even more texture.

STREET ART - 20x24x2.75" Box Canvas - Acrylic • $285
I am teaching a class right now on abstracts and I combined my love of brilliant colors with my graphic design background of clean edges! This is painted with acrylics and the canvas in 2.75 inches deep with the designs wrapped on the sides.

I wanted it to have a fabric look. I love all the fabrics that IKEA offers and I was trying to achieve a textile look.

Thanks for looking!

Art Of War - April 20th 2011 Symphony & Exhibit

Finally - the show was last night and it was so much fun!
The symphony was spectacular and the art was so amazing. I received a lot of good feedback and had some great friends and my awesome family there with me. I made some new friends too so it was really an honor to be part of that amazing event. It was great to see so many different styles of art and interpretations of the pieces performed.

Here is the Piece I Chose: "Prayer in Time of War" $425 - In Honor of William Schuman - 24x36x2.75 Acrylic on box canvas - I chose this piece to really illustrate the emotional side of war which was what was intended by Schuman.  I wanted to capture the intense emotions that  accompany such anguish and devastation. As a mom, I could not even
comprehend the fact that children were separated from their parents. The broken hearts represent the innocent lives lost and the dark forest represents the aftermath.
I chose to paint this mostly in black and white - void of color to portray emptiness.  Words of emotion wrap the  canvas on all sides. The painting has sold.
